German luxury car manufacturer, Porsche is all set to introduce its first electric sedan. The car which was earlier codenamed 'Mission E' is now going to take on the moniker 'Taycan'. The production of the upcoming electric sedan which was showcased at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show is all set to begin next year.

The company has revealed that the production name Taycan translates into "lively young horse" in Asian dialects. To live up to its moniker the company has offered two electric motors in the upcoming sedan which will generate a combined peak power output of 600 hp. To enhance the car's rear biased characteristics which are highly coveted by Porsche enthusiasts, the company has positioned the more powerful electric motor of the two at the area of the of the sedan.

The Taycan will come equipped with permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, which means they will work to enhance the sedan's braking and not rely on the car's disc brakes alone.

Porsche Taycan might also get two-speed gearboxes which are not traditionally offered in electric vehicles. The gearboxes will be assigned with specific functionalities, undertaking city and freeway motoring duties separately. The dedicated gearbox will enable the sedan to offer high performance acceleration when required.

In terms of the performance, the company indicated earlier this year that Taycan will be able to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds. The electric sedan will go on to accelerate to 125 mph in Under 12 seconds. It is also expected that the upcoming electric sedan will be able to achieve a top speed stat somewhere north of 155 mph.

The electric drivetrain system in Taycan will be able to limit its power depending on driving requirements. This means that the system will conserve energy during economy drives, therefore increasing the driving range. Drivers will also get access to complete power on-demand. The company claims that Porsche Taycan will offer an all-electric driving range of 310 miles.

Taycan will also be offered with fast charging. The company claims that drivers will be able to charge the upcoming electric sedan up to 80 percent in 15 minutes by using an 800 Volt charger. The company will also equip the Taycan with an artificially generated sound which will be audible to the pedestrians.

Porsche has also confirmed that Taycan will also be offered in a crossover wagon avatar. We expect to see a 5-door rear hatch wagon which will come with an increased ride height and updated suspension system.
