With the growing popularity of compact utility vehicles like the Ford Ecosport and EVs in European and North American markets, the DS3 Crossback and its fully electric variant are very important launches for the French automaker.

The exterior design of DS3 is reminiscent of its larger sibling the DS7 Crossback. The bodywork features chrome accents, matrix LED headlamps which feature a complex sculpted design and horizontal tail lights, which get chrome enclosures that are connected by a stripe engraved with the moniker ‘Crossback' and runs across the length of the rear hatch.

At the front, we find a large air dam which breaks away from the traditional curvaceous design which Citrons traditionally feature and instead we get a more angular fascia that we have grown accustomed to seeing on offerings from Audi.

In addition to the raked roofline, we also find a large diffuser at the rear which is like the one offered on the Jaguar I-Pace. The DS Crossback uses the company's CMP platform as its underpinnings, which gives the vehicle its compact dimensions. DS3 Crossback is 4.12 meters in length 1.79 meters wide and 1.54 meters tall.

The all-electric variant will get a platform which will be a derivation of the CMP platform. DS calls this new platform ‘e-CMP' and will be designed to support all EV ancillary components. This fully-electric variant will be launched before a plug-in-hybrid model, which will join the lineup of DS3 Crossbacks later.

The moniker adopted by this all-electric version is DS3 Crossback is ‘e-Tense'. The e-Tense will be powered by a 50 kWh battery pack which will get fast charging capabilities. This battery pack can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes from a 100 KW fast charging terminal.

The power from the batteries will be sent to an electric motor which will produce a peak power output of 136 HP and 191.7 lb-ft of torque. The company claims that e-Tense will be offered with a 186 miles all-electric driving range which has been approved under the WLTP cycle.

Citroen has confirmed that it will not launch the DS3 Crossback in North America. However, in Europe, the CUV will make its debut during the upcoming Parish Motor Show in 2019.

The e-Tense c variant of DS3 Crossback will make its debut in the winter next year and it will be followed by the launch of the hybrid model in the year 2022.
