Top 3 Six-wheel (6x6) Trucks for Extreme Environments and Terrains

What does the French Renault TRM 10000, US M939 heavy cargo truck and the Mercedes-Benz Zetros all have in common? They are all massive, six-wheel drive vehicles (6x6).

Mostly found in military camps, industrial facilities and off-roading environments, the trucks rely on a single forward and two rear axles for mobility and hauling. For civilians, these types of units are usually unavailable for purchase.

However, it is possible to get your hands on a 6x6 truck with similar features and capabilities. Below are three six-wheel transporters for extreme hauling and off-roading.

1. Kahn Design Flying Huntsman

The Flying Huntsman 110 6x6 Double Cab Pickup Soft-Top is a monster on wheels. Powered by a 430-hp, 6.2-liter V8 diesel engine, the unit measures 17 feet and comes with a foldable roof made out of fabric.

"Having received much acclaim for fashioning the Flying Huntsman 110 6X6 Double Cab Pick Up and Wide Body models, our latest coach built 6x6 is set to translate into the real world very soon, bringing an element of adventure, engineering and romanticism to the most seasoned of Defender owners and enthusiasts," explained a company representative.

The extended rear cabin caters to large cargo or extra passengers (roughly enough room for five individuals). The Flying Huntsman is set to debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Pricing for the unit is expected to reach around $340,000.

2. Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6

Individuals who need more power than what the Flying Huntsman can offer may consider checking out the VelociRaptor 6x6 from Hennessey Performance Engineering. It is equipped with a 600-hp engine, helping the truck go from zero to 60 mph in under 4.9 seconds. The four-door unit is noticeably heavy, with an additional 700 pounds of equipment to improve its rugged capabilities.

Featuring a hefty price tag of $349,000, Hennessey provides a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty to every VelociRaptor 6x6 vehicle sold. The latest model was showcased at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. Initially, a total of 50 units will be provided for US consumers and another 50 trucks for global markets.

3. Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 6x6

Originally developed for the Australian Army in 2007, the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 6x6 combines extreme driving with luxury. The automaker started making commercialized models of the truck for civilian use in 2013. This unit is a 6x6 version of the four-wheel AMG G63 and features an extended cabin with a powerful 536-hp, twin-turbo V8 AMG engine. A tuned, 700 hp version is available (created by Brabus).

Compared to the other two trucks above, this 6x6 joyride is laced with a comfortable interior. Automotive designers kept the vintage, analog meters and added a digital, touchscreen infotainment panel in the center of the vehicle. The unit weighs approximately 9,000 lbs.

"The superiority of the G 63 AMG 6X6 is also demonstrated by an innovative tire pressure control system which enables the driver to vary the tire pressure for the front axle and the two rear axles separately," said the company.
