Here's What We Know About the Electric Audi Q4 e-tron
Audi has released official sketches of the battery-powered Q4 e-tron concept SUV, just ahead of its worldwide reveal at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Images released by the German luxury car manufacturer comprise of sketches showcasing both the exterior and interior of the new electric utility vehicle concept.
Even though the concept will make its debut in a couple of weeks in Geneva, Audi confirmed that the production model won't be launched until sometime in late 2020 or early 2021.
Audi's Q4 e-tron has been designed to be the company's high-volume electric model. The automaker expects the electric Q4 to become its highest selling electric vehicle soon after its launch. The e-tron will join Audi's expanding lineup of battery-powered vehicles, inlcuding the more expensive e-tron SUV, which will goes on sale next month.
Audi has stated that Q4 e-tron will provide the world "a glimpse of the next stage of Audi electric mobility". It is quite possible that future electric SUVs from Audi will adopt the same design language as that of Q4 e-tron. The sketches depict a stanced crossover design similar to previous electric vehicle concepts we have seen from Audi.
The electric Q4 will share the same Volkswagen MEB platform as the ID Neo and both cars will be built at Volkswagen's Zwickau assembly plant, which the automaker is converting to produce only electric vehicles.
Volkswagen's ID Neo will be an electric hatchback with dimensions similar to that of a VW Golf. The Neo will likely go on sale in 2020, making it one of the first electric offerings from Volkswagen.
Proportions of the Q4 will be similar to that of the Audi Q3, providing the convenience and versatility of a 4-door model. The electric SUV will most definitely distinguish itself from its gas-powered sibling with some aggressive design language.
Thanks to the New European Driving Cycle model, we expect that the production-spec model of Q4 e-tron will have an all-electric driving range of 311 miles. However, real-world driving range might drop to a more realistic 250 mile mark, like that of the larger Audi e-Tron SUV, which uses a 95 kWh battery pack.
The Q4 e-tron is designed to be a premium offering from Volkswagen's luxury Audi nameplate. It's unlikely that Audi's new electric SUV will share its battery pack options with VW ID Neo, but we'll have to wait a bit longer for the official specs.
