EVgo Partnering with Chevron to Install EV Fast Charging at Select California Gas Stations

In the future, gas stations might become convenient locations to dispense power for electric vehicles. EVgo, which operates the nation's largest public electric vehicle (EV) fast charging network, announced today it is working with Chevron to bring EV fast charging to select Chevron company-owned gas stations in California.

EVgo operates America's largest public EV fast-charging network. The company operates more than 1,100 DC fast chargers in 66 metro areas across 34 states.

The EV chargers being installed in California Chevron stations will range from 50 kW to 100 kW capacity, delivering up to 90 miles of range in 30 minutes. EVgo's fast chargers are compatible with all EV models currently on the market that accept DC fast charging.

The EV chargers are located at Chevron stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area communities in California, including Aliso Viejo, Manhattan Beach, Menlo Park, and Venice.

Sales of electric vehicles in California are surging. The state has the nation's highest number of electric vehicle sales in the U.S.  According to tracking by Veloz, a non-profit organization focused on accelerating the transition to electric vehicles, total electric car sales increased 84% from 2017 (96,847) to 2018 (177,781).

EVgo is one of several EV charging providers building out a network of EV charging infrastructure across the U.S. Virginia-based Electrify America (EA) is aiming to install 2,000 DC fast chargers at 484 stations by the end of the year. EA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group.

EV charging is now available in the Silicon Valley city of Menlo Park, one of five stations planned to host more than a dozen EVgo fast chargers and offer convenient charging to EV drivers. Additional stations are scheduled to open over the next few months.

EVgo offers a variety of flexible pricing options for drivers of electric vehicles, including pay-as you-go plans and low-cost monthly membership options. The company plans on doubling its network capacity by year-end 2020.

Earlier this month, EVgo announced that it has contracted for 100% renewable energy to power its EV chargers, becoming the first EV charging network in the United States to do so.
