Porsche Taycan EV Spotted Testing with Minimal Camouflage
German luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche recently took the upcoming Taycan electric sports car to the track for testing. The soon to be released electric sedan was spotted testing draped in a minimal amount of camouflage and if that wasn't conspicuous enough, Porsche had the Taycan name and the "Soul, electrified" tagline printed on the exterior of the masked car.
Previous spy shots and concept images of the new Porsche Taycan revealed quite a few details about the car's design. The recent images confirm that Porsche is sticking to its original design philosophy and no major design tweaks can be seen on the masked prototype.
The new images feature the battery-powered Taycan flaunting its low slung nose and rectangular LED headlights. We also get a look at the car's EV charging port, which is located on the driver's side fender.
The Taycan also sports big, high-performance brake calipers painted bright yellow. If Porsche's history is any indication, the company might opt to offer the contrasting yellow brake calipers as an option on the production model.
The production model will not include the racing seats and safety roll-cage seen in the spy shots.
At the rear of the sedan, we find a large wrap-around tail light, which encases a single strip of LED lighting. Also missing are the fake exhaust pipes which we saw on earlier testing vehicles.
We also get a clear look into the cabin of Porsche Taycan which features a digital instrument panel on the driver's side. There is also a large glass panel that stretches across the length of the dashboard which might also double as a widescreen display.
Porsche claims that the Taycan can go from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds. The sedan will feature a 310-mile all-electric driving range. In order for the Taycan to live up to the legendary Porsche heritage, The German automaker designed an extensive testing campaign to ensure Taycan is up to the mark.
Porsche said the Taycan will drive "like a 911."
The Taycan has distinct rear tail lights.
Porsche wants to make sure the Taycan lives up to the storied Porsche heritage and is looking to get everything right. The development campaign involves testing Taycans for 6.2 million miles in a virtual world and 3.7 million miles of on-road testing.
The Taycan is all set to make its debut before the end of this year and the company will expand its EV lineup by introducing an all-electric Taycan Cross Turismo wagon model next year.
In addition to the upcoming Taycan, Porsche confirmed that it will be working on other electrified offerings and has plans to expand its EV portfolio even further.
We expect that Porsche will use the Taycan to rival the Tesla Model S, while Porsche's parent company Volkswagen Group will be responsible for developing a number of more affordable, fully-electric models.
