2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Deliveries Delayed Over Quality Issues

Ford has a few extremely popular vehicles on sale. There's the redesigned Ford F-150 with a hybrid powertrain, the Bronco, and the all-electric Mustang Mach-E. While a few consumers have already received their Mustang Mach-Es, thousands of consumers are still waiting patiently for their electric crossovers to arrive. Unfortunately, consumers that are currently waiting will have to wait a bit longer, as the Mach-E has been delayed.


Quality Issue-Related Delays


According to the Detroit Free Press, hundreds of customers in North America will have to wait a little longer before their Mustang Mach-E SUVs are delivered. The issue, according to the outlet, has to deal with quality issues.


"As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles, we are conducting additional quality checks on several hundred Mustang Mach-E models built before dealer shipments started last month. We want to ensure they meet the quality our customers expect and deserve," said Ford spokeswoman Emma Bergg.


The electric crossover, which is currently only available through pre-order, is being assembled in Mexico. The outlet states that the delay has nothing to do with the recent semiconductor shortage the entire automotive industry is facing. The Ford spokeswoman didn't provide any specifics on what's causing the delay, but stated that the automaker is working quickly to get things back on schedule.


"We notified affected customers (several hundred in the U.S. and Canada) that they may receive their Mustang Mach-Es on different timing than previously discussed," said Bergg. "The team is working to expedite these vehicles, and we hope that customers receive them ahead of targeted dates, providing there are no COVID-19-related transportation delays."


Ford's Not Alone With Quality Issues


Quality issues are the last thing Ford wants to deal with when it comes to the Mustang Mach-E. The American automaker took a huge risk by expanding the Mustang lineup with an electric crossover and faced a lot of backlash from journalists and enthusiasts for using the Mustang name. Quality issues could see the electric crossover go from being a hot vehicle to a dud.


Since Ford refused to elaborate on what kind of quality issues it's facing with the Mustang Mach-E, it's hard to say what's wrong with the electric vehicle. Tesla has faced numerous quality issues with its electric cars. From ill-fitting body panels, trunks and hoods that are difficult to open, excessive wind noise, squeaks and rattles, to paint imperfections, Tesla owners have had to deal with various quality issues. Despite these issues, consumers flock to Tesla. It's possible that Ford would still get a decent amount of business by selling the Mach-E with quality issues, but that's not a gamble the automaker is willing to take.


A few consumers have reached out to Ford to make their feelings heard. It's understandable as to why they're upset. While Ford claims that it reached out to reservation holders, some consumers claim that they saw their reservations were moved back by a few months without an explanation. Hopefully, Ford can get its quality issues with the Mustang Mach-E under control before consumers lose their patience and decide not to take delivery of their EVs.
