Audi Reveals the Q4 e-tron & Sportback Models
Volkswagen is advancing its electrification strategy quite impressively. Most recently, the automaker also announced that its future MEB-based models will come equipped with bidirectional charging capability.
The Q4 e-tron Sportback is also a more aerodynamic version of the standard e-tron. Audi designed the Q4 e-tron Sportback to be as aerodynamic as possible, which is why the EV comes with Audi's aero-wheels to help reduce drag.
Audi engineers also added an optimized rear spoiler which is designed to make the electric crossover as efficient as possible.
The Sportback has an impressive 0.26 drag coefficient, which Audi achieved by lowering the roofline towards the rear. However, this design reduced rear headroom slightly. The standard e-tron model offers 2 centimeters of more headroom for the backseat passengers than the Sportback model.
The EV also comes equipped with controlled cooling air intake that sits right under the vehicle's faux grille.
The rear-wheel-drive base variant of Q4 e-tron Sportback produces 201 horsepower. Audi will also offer a top of the line Q4 50 e-tron variant, which comes equipped with Audi's proprietary Quattro drive technology and produces 402 horsepower.
The Q4 50 e-tron can accelerate from 0 to 62 MPH in just 6.2 seconds. However Audi has electronically limited the top speed of its e-tron models to 124 mph.
The e-tron Sportback has a maximum range of 323 miles and gets 125 kW fast charging capability, which adds 80 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
The all-wheel-drive Quattro Sportback models will also be able to tow up to 2,646 lbs.
Prices for the Q4 35 e-tron variant in European market equipped with a 52 kWh battery start around US$50,200. Audi has also introduced a limited production "Edition One" Series, which costs around $110,000.
Audi said that the more affordable standard Q4 e-tron model will start at around $45,000. The e-tron Sportback will have an MSRP of $69,100 in the U.S.
Incentive for U.S. buyers of the e-tron Sportback include a potential federal tax credit of up to $7,500 and 1,000 kWh hours of charging at no additional cost at any one of Electrify America's fast-charging stations across the country for first four years of ownership.
