BMW Releases Pricing, Specs for 2022 i4 and iX EVs
BMW provided some information and pictures on the 2022 i4 sedan and 2022 iX SUV earlier this year, but has waited until now to give us the full lowdown on what kind of performance, range, and pricing the two electric vehicles will have. Let's start with the i4 sedan.
2022 BMW i4 Specs
Consumers in the U.S. will be able to purchase two different versions of the i4 when the vehicle goes on sale in the first quarter of 2022. The standard version is called the eDrive40, while the performance-oriented model will be called the M50. Both models will come with an 83.9-kWh battery pack, though only 81.5-kWh is actually usable. The two i4 models can handle charging at up to 200 kW, which will take the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in 31 minutes.
On the performance front, the entry-level i4 eDrive40 will come with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive for 335 horsepower. BMW is targeting a zero-to-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph. Official range figures aren't available yet, but BMW claims the model will be able to travel up to 300 miles.
For even more performance, there's the i4 M50. That model comes with a two-motor, all-wheel-drive layout for a combined output of 536 horsepower. Getting to 60 mph takes just 3.9 seconds, while top speed is a higher 140 mph. Range takes a hit, as the i4 M50 is expected to have an official range figure of 245 miles.
When it comes to pricing, the i4 eDrive40 will start at $56,395, which includes destination, while the i4 M50 will cost $66,895.
2022 BMW iX Arrives
Unlike the i4, BMW only plans to offer the iX SUV in one trim level when it goes on sale. The trim will be called the xDrive50 and it's packing some serious power. The SUV comes with a dual-motor setup that makes 516 horsepower. With all-wheel drive and over 500 horsepower, the iX SUV will be able to get to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. BMW's already planning to come out with an M Sport model with over 600 horsepower.
As far as range goes, the iX xDrive50 will come with a 111.5-kWh battery pack with a usable amount of 106.9 kWh. Preliminary range figures point toward the SUV being able to travel up to 300 miles on a single charge. When it comes to charging, the iX xDrive50 will be able to fast charge at a rate of up to 200 kW. That will get the SUV to get an 80 percent charge back in less than 40 minutes.
Pricing for the 2022 iX xDrive50 will start at $84,195. Just like with the i4, the electric SUV will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.
