The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Will Offer More Range
Ford's electric Mach-E crossover has been quite popular, and rightfully so. The prestige and inspiration of the storied Mustang further enhances the appeal of the Mach-E and its family-friendly versatility.
This combination won over many early adopters, but as with any other product, customers couldn't get enough of a good thing and demanded more range from the lower-end Mach-E models. As it turns out, Ford was paying attention to its customer feedback.
According to an order guide that leaked online, Ford is working on adding more range to the 2022 Mustang Mach-E models. The order guide shows a slight bump in the range figures.
This additional range will help Mach-E better compete with some of its rivals. The battery capacity of the entry-level Standard Range model has been increased to 70 kWh, up from 68 kWh of usable battery capacity in the 2021 model. As for the Extended Range Mach-E, the bump in range is a bit higher, as battery power has increased from 88 kWh to 91 kWh.
The increased capacity can add at least 10 miles to the overall range, which might not seem like much, but even small increases in range are enough to satisfy customers and help Ford to better market the Mach-E.
With more available battery power, the Extended Range version of the 2022 Mustang Mach-E might surpass the 300-mile mark on a single charge. This will give the 2022 Mach-E a longer range than its rivals, like Kia Soul EV, and Hyundai Kona EV. However, it would still be behind the current segment leader, the Tesla Model-Y, which offers an EPA estimated range of 326 miles.
The all-electric powertrain of the Mach-E GT's Performance variant produces 480 horsepower and 634 lb ft of peak torque. The performance crossover can also deliver 235 miles of range, which is much lower than the Performance version of the Model Y with an EPA estimated range of 303 miles.
But the Mach-E GT Performance model is further enhanced with sport suspension and a Brembo brake setup. As a result, it's an impressive high-voltage ensemble despite its lower range numbers.
Ford officials have confirmed that the Mach-E's range will continually improve in upcoming years.
Apart from the range boost, the 2022 Mach-E models will get some other changes. The California Route 1 Mach-E model, for example, will get an all-wheel-drive setup with heated front seats and steering wheel. The interior package will get minor updates.
Ford is also adding more color options for all of the 2022 Mach-E models, including Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat and Grabber Blue Metallic. Ford is also ditching some standard color options, which include Iconic Silver and Carbonized Gray.
The only exception are Mach-E models with the optional "Ice White Appearance Package" that was revealed earlier in August, which will obviously come in white.
