Ford Spices Up 2022 Mustang With New Appearance Packages
The Ford Mustang Mach-E may be the most popular Mustangs and the one that is drawing the most attention, but Ford wants to bring some attention to the gasoline-powered Mustang. To help the 2022 Mustang feel fresh, Ford has come out with two new appearance packages. We're not sure if the packages do enough to help the muscular sports car, which came out in 2015 in its current guise, feel as new as the Mustang Mach-E. But they do add another dimension to the vehicle
New Appearance Packages Arrive
Let's start with the new Stealth Edition. The appearance package is an option for the base four-cylinder EcoBoost model. As the name implies, the Stealth Edition adds a bunch of blacked-out pieces to the sports car. The package adds clear taillights, black trim for the badges, and black side mirrors. The sports car also comes with 19-inch wheels, a badge in the instrument cluster, and a rear spoiler. The Stealth Edition will be available on the EcoBoost Premium model and is offered with gray, blue, black, or silver exterior colors. Ford hasn't announced pricing for the package yet.
The next package is the California Special, which is a name that Ford has used in the past with the Mustang. The package is available on the GT coupe and convertible trims. The California Special package gets a black grille, scoop on the rear fenders, badges, and stripes. Under the hood, the package adds a new strut tower brace. Coupe models get a spoiler, while the convertible comes standard with a spoiler delete.
The California Special package can be optioned with the available GT Performance package for a sporty Mustang with some extra style. The GT Performance package adds upgraded brakes, a limited-slip differential, revised suspension, staggered 19-inch wheels, and Pirelli summer tires.
Packages Coming Early 2022
Unlike the Stealth Edition, the California Special package comes with some interior enhancements. The package adds black Miko sueded-trimmed door inserts and sueded-trimmed seats with a "GT/CS" logo embossed into the seats. Red contrast stitching, "GT/CS" embroidered in the floor mats, an instrument panel finished in carbon hex aluminum, and a signature California Special script badge round out the changes.
Ford will offer the California Special in a variety of colors. Atlas Blue, Cyber Orange, Carbonized Gray, Dark Matter, Iconic Silverado, Grabber Blue Metallic, Oxford White, Rapid Red, and Shadow Black are all available exterior colors.
"Mustang owners have always loved personalizing their ride, and these new flavors of Mustang are ready to inspire and excite new enthusiasts," said Jim Owens, Mustang brand marketing manager.
Order books for the 2022 Mustang Stealth Edition and California Special packages will open later this year. The 2022 Mustang will arrive at showrooms early next year.
